As an Australian citizen by birth I am making this submission in support of and Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Voice to be enshrined in the Australian Constitution.
I have accepted the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart to walk with First Nations people in a movement of Australian People for a better future.
Unfortunately Australian Politics and successive Australian Governments have failed First Nations people and all Australians in failing to acknowledging the shameful past mistakes that has resulted the near destruction of the worlds oldest culture. These unresolved wounds of the past continue to impede the progress of our country at all levels, its time to make meaningful and functional change that allows us to move forward as one.
In my submission I am calling for the Australian Government to honour its election commitment to a referendum once a model for the Voice has been settled.
Enabling legislation for the Voice must be passed after a referendum has been held in the next term of Parliament.
The membership model for the National Voice must ensure previously unheard Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have the same chance of being selected as established leadership figures.
I truly believe the a Voice will finally provide a fair go for First Nations People to provide self determination for their own people protected from politics and politicians. This is a practical change that can only promote understanding on how to achieve a better future through uniting all Australians.
I feel that a Voice is something that is supported the Australian people and will be proven in a referendum in the first term of the Australian Government as elected in the next Federal Election.
This is a uniting opportunity for us all to begin to heal the wounds of the past and make the most of our future as ONE!
