Dear Co-Design Body
Co-design process: Submission for Pete Dawborn
I am an older white man of European descent, born in Melbourne last century. I have grown up as a privileged member of the colonial society and worked in many fields trying to bring awareness to others of our destructive impact on the earth and each other, and to improve our understanding, as a retailer of organic food, and as a counsellor helping people understand ourselves and our motivations and place on the earth.
Why do you think the Uluru Statement from the Heart is important?
The Uluru statement is important because it states the significance of First Nations people’s connection to this place we call Australia.
Why is it important for Indigenous people to have a say in the matters that affect them?
Because it’s the only way their health and living conditions will improve.
How could a Voice to Parliament improve the lives of your community?
This would help local indigenous people be recognised by our community for their significance and connection to the past and future of this land.
Why do you think it's important to enshrine the Voice to Parliament in the Constitution, rather than include it only in legislation?
Because this will ensure their place together in the modern country’s foundation and future.
This is long overdue and we just need to make it happen ASAP
Kind regards,
Pete Dawborn
