Paul Kowal
O'Connor ACT 2602
Dear Co-Design Body
I became an Australian citizen in 2011 and strongly support the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and a First Nations Voice to Parliament.
Why do you think the Uluru Statement from the Heart is important?
First Nations people have never ceded their lands, and their voices have been suppressed or ignored for too long - I hope the Uluru Statement from the Heart will be heard and actions taken to bring equality and to close the gap(s).
Why do you think it's important to enshrine the Voice to Parliament in the Constitution, rather than include it only in legislation?
A formal mechanism is required to ensure a platform for a Voice in Parliament - our history shows that without it, First Nations remain largely voiceless.
How could a Voice to Parliament improve the lives of your community?
Will allow a formal engagement with a broad and deep learned experience and expertise to Parliament that can only serve to enrich our collective social, cultural, scientific and political worlds.
Why is it important for Indigenous people to have a say in the matters that affect them?
Crucial for cultural continuity and individual and whole population well-being.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Kowal
