I grew up in Melbourne, where my family has loved for 6 generations.
I believe we need to listen to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples, as their connection to this land places them in an important position. They have been badly treated, and this brings all of us down. They have spoken and we should be listening.
Everyone does better when they have agency over their lives, and when they are respected for their perspectives and ideas. Indigenous people are the same, but they haven't been given that freedom. The effects of the Stolen Generations are ongoing.
I wish for the best outcome. A modern Australia reconciled with the original inhabitants of this ancient land.
