Dear Co-Design Body

I am of anglo heritage. I grew up in inner Sydney and have raised a family on the far south coast where I worked as a school teacher but am now retired.
Why do you think the Uluru Statement from the Heart is important?
The Uluru Statement from the Heart is immensely important because it asks that the truth be told about the history of First nations people in this country. It is important because it calls for inequity of powerlessness and disproportionate incarceration rates be addressed and most importantly it calls for the establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Constitution.
Why do you think it's important to enshrine the Voice to Parliament in the Constitution, rather than include it only in legislation?
To enshrine the Voice to Parliament of First Nations peoples in the Constitution permanently gives a Voice to these peoples in most need of a Voice.
Why is it important for Indigenous people to have a say in the matters that affect them?
it is MOST important indigenous people have a say in matters affecting them because they are the people with the best understanding of their own predicament. Paternalism has never and will never work.
How could a Voice to Parliament improve the lives of your community?
Truth telling of First Nations history enables the whole community to move forward with honesty
Kind regards,
Andrew Turnbull
