As a person who doesn’t identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, I have no intention in putting these words forward to speak on the behalf of First Nations peoples. I do, however, recognise that as a non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person I do have a role to play in expressing my support for a constitutionally enshrined Voice, and responding to the invitation that is the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

In particular, I call for:
- The honouring of the government’s election commitment to conducting a referendum as soon as practicable after a model for the Voice has been established
- Once the referendum has occurred the legislation to enable the Voice being established must happen in the next term of Parliament
- As per the dialogues that occurred in the process leading up to the Uluru Statement from the Heart, the Voice must include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who typically have fewer opportunities to be heard than their peers in established leadership positions.
