Dear All (as this concerns us all),
I am writing as a passionate supporter of the Uluru Statement of the Heart and calling for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
Given the suffering and trauma that the First Nations People have endured over the past 200+ years, we are long overdue to offer the traditional owners of this land a voice and the power to curate their own lives.
Generously, the First Nations people are inviting us on this journey that, our country and nation will benefit from.
The wisdom of this ancient culture is the healing that we all need to move forward and to survive.
I am requesting action around the below points:
1. The government must honour its election commitment to a referendum once the model for
the Voice has been settled;
2. Enabling legislation for the Voice must be passed after a referendum has been held in the
next term of Parliament; and
3. The membership model for the National Voice must ensure previously unheard Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people have the same chance of being selected as established
leadership figures.
In gratitude for your time and hope for positive change,
Danae
