I acknowledge the Traditional Owners and custodians of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, waters and community.
I believe that a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Australian Constitution is a fair and practical action toward social justice and an improved, united Australia.
All three aspects of the Uluru Statement from the Heart (Voice; Treaty; Truth) have justifiably been requested by First Nations peoples over the last 250 years and it is disappointing that Australia has never recognised these requests.
I urge the Australian government to take the model for a Voice to a national referendum once it has been agreed within the Indigenous community.
Enabling legislation needs to be passed to support the model for the First Nations Voice to Parliament.
I believe that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples should have the same chance of being selected in the Voice to Parliament.
