There is a growing realisation among Australians that First Nations people have suffered from European colonisation in a way that is no longer acceptable. This is partly a result of our awareness of such issues as Deaths in Custody and the Stolen Generation, our increasing understanding of the truth of white settlement and Aboriginal massacres, and a growing sense of social justice for First nations people globally.
there will be many aspects to the process of rectifying this and providing First Nations people with the human rights they deserve. A first and critical step is the provision of a Voice to parliament, both regionally and nationally.
I am many others in my peer group feel deeply concerned that the Uluru Statement has been pushed aside by federal government. We want to persuade our elected leaders that it is time the rights of the ancestral inhabitants of this land were respected and valued.
There has been too much delay and misinformation. Please, as a matter of urgency, establish these processes so that we can move forward as one nation.
