I believe Australian society would benefit greatly by the establishment of the National and Regional community voices. The perspective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait people is unique and has the potential to add great depth to the national conversation on many topics. Land management and the laws around it is one important aspect in my view.
I would like to see a body that can include the diverse (and opposing) voices of all parts of indigenous society and not just a body that reflects currently entrenched indigenous power systems, or current mainstream Australian versions of Authority.
I believe this Voice should become constitutionally recognised and its sole function should be to convey the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait people to the government of Australia.
Consultation should be a genuine act of co-creation and not a cursory nod to a tick box on a piece of paper.
