As a young adult I have grown up with an understanding of the importance of reconciliation for the First Nations People. Having a Voice in parliament will work to close the gap and benefit all of Australia’s people.
What I am asking is that the government honours its election commitment to a referendum once a model for the Voice has been settled. Enabling legislation for the Voice must be passed after a referendum has been held in the next term of Parliament. The membership model for the National Voice must ensure previously unheard Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have the same chance of being selected as established leadership figures.
I write this with hope to see a future where this country is reconciled.
