Submission for Co-design process
I am a free-lance musician and educator, at various establishments. I am not an Indigenous Australian, and am conscious of my privilege, especially in comparison to our First Nations People.
Voice, treaty and truth can change the future in a productive and healing manner.
Why do you think the Uluru Statement from the Heart is important?
We cannot change the hideous past- but we must acknowledge and light a voice, an enshrined Indigenous Australian voice, to work alongside the Government. Conversation. Partnership.
Why do you think it's important to enshrine the Voice to Parliament in the Constitution, rather than include it only in legislation?
This cannot be something that we un-do later. This must be a lasting solution that we as a country are committed to.
Why do you think Indigenous people should have a Voice to Parliament?
How can we improve situations and opportunities for Indigenous Australians without the honest voice? We cannot ‘guess’ and speak as if we know. We cannot speak for anybody else, anymore. This must be a collaboration where voices are heard equally. A safe and secure seat is waiting at the table for an enshrined, Indigenous voice.
Kind regards
