I am a retired musician and esl teacher, born in England, lived in Sydney 45 years.
Why do you think the Uluru Statement from the Heart is important?
After 250 years it is time we LISTENED to the first nation peoples to try to understand their knowledge and care for the land.
How could a Voice to Parliament improve the lives of your community?
We would learn so much more about the area and the people and they could have our respect.
Why do you think it's important to enshrine the Voice to Parliament in the Constitution, rather than include it only in legislation?
Because it is time to show RESPECT to the first nations and acknowledge their understanding of country.
Why is it important for Indigenous people to have a say in the matters that affect them?
It is important for ALL people to have a say in matters that affect them. Because they have a broader idea of life, land and family. Western whiteman’s idea of equality is “do it our way” - why can we not HEAR other ways?
I am ashamed that it has taken this long to get to this stage. The government must honour its election commitment to a referendum once a model for the Voice has been settled.
Thank you,
