I am an Australian of British descendent, one of whose forebears came to this country as a convict on the First Fleet (HMS Alexander).
I consider the Uluru Statement from the Heart to be a timely and historic opportunity to promote reconciliation in this country. Providing a voice for Indigenous people (which is protected by the Constitution) would be of incomparable benefit in giving such a voice, while, despite misleading statements to the contrary, not requiring significant change to the structure of political power in Australia under its Constitution.
I there fore ask the Government to adopt most if not all of the courses of action arising from the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
