Submission for Co-design process
I work for as an NDIS Support Coordinator. I grew up in Darwin after being
born in Adelaide. After ten years in Adelaide, I have now returned home to Darwin.
I believe that our Indigenous people deserve to be honoured as the traditional people of
this land. The Uluru Statement from the Heart is a beautiful beginning step toward a long
journey of recognition.
It is important to enshrine the Voice to Parliament in the Constitution because it is the
written foundation of society. To recognise and enshrine the Voice to Parliament in the
Constitution is to formally recognise our Indigenous brothers and sisters as honoured
and respected members of this society at its most fundamental level.
I believe a Voice to Parliament could improve the lives of my community by helping to
reframe prejudice, supporting cooperative living, and promoting mutual health,
wellbeing, and success for all peoples.
We non-Indigenous people are visitors in this land, and we owe respect to Indigenous
people, their voice, their culture, and their country.
This is long overdue.
Yours sincerely,
