As person fortunate enough to recently become an Australian Citizen and as part of that process increasing my education around what it means to be Australian and the history of the country I now call home its clear to me the voice of indigenous Australians is not loud enough. Its not something we see enough in policies from the government, its not something we hear enough about in the media or in public life. Its not something that is taught enough through our education system. Through giving the first people to call Australia home a louder voice in government I hope the country can incorporate more of the original identity of the country into key decisions and follow others who have been more successful in incorporating the view of indigenous people. I feel the proposal could enrich the identity of what it means to be Australian and make the country better for all who call it home.
