I was born overseas and have chosen to become an Australian. The Uluru Statement from the Heart was a clear, heartfelt, action-oriented gift from the First Nations people of Australia to Australians everywhere. It was offered in a spirit of generosity and optimism, and I am pleased to respond in that spirit. I call upon the Government to submit the question of a Voice to Parliament to the people of Australia through a referendum once a model has been agreed upon. It is important that the Voice be enshrined in the Constitution once approved by referendum. The first nations people of Australia are best placed to comment on issues that affect them and must be heard.
