I am a white woman of Settler descent who lives on Ngadgjon country in Far North Queensland. I am
originally from Sydney. I am studying Sustainability through the University of Tasmania. Previously, I
have studied Education and Psychology through James Cook University in Townsville. I also have
qualifications in Business. I work at Eacham Community Help Organisation - ECHO Empowering
Services as a Community Engagement Worker.
The Uluru Statement from the Heart is important because it gives a voice to First Nations people. A
voice that needs to be built into our Constitution, not just recognition in the pre-amble.
it is important for the voice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to be built into our
Constitution so that they are finally acknowledged as First Nations people of Australia.
A Voice to Parliament would reinstate Hope and Pride in my Community.
It is important for all Indigenous people to have self-determination and full and effective
participation. This has been identified by the UN and implemented across the world. It needs to be
actioned in Australia. Indigenous people have been left behind by us, it's time to recognise them
formally, and implement substantive change.
Thank you,
Belinda Moore
