It is absolutely vital the Voice be enshrined in the Constitution. Self-determination, representation and input are some the most important factors in addressing the problems we've caused Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the violence and injustice of colonisation. None of this is possible without a voice. Knowing how slowly the cogs of government turn, it is critical that the election commitment for a referendum is honoured and the Voice is legislated for in the next parliamentary term. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must be established not only as leadership figures but as the experts on their own experiences and needs.
