I am a retired person actively involved in the community in Justice of the Peace and charitable activities. I have a passion for reading and keeping informed on local, national and world affairs and have been following "the voice" as it progresses. I was/am a staunch supported of Marbo and believe a lot more needs doing to enable our first peoples to benefit from land recognition. I well remember the many and varied problems associated with ASTSIC and is dismissal. Whilst I have no issue with, and in fact support, a voice to parliament, I will definitely not support or vote in a referendum for the voice being enshrined in the constitution. I think you you will find many people with this opinion and to date I have heard or read nothing that cause a change to this point of view. Clearly there are currently too many groups and individuals vying to represent the voice of indigenous people. One coherent group that manage to do this might be able to come up with a viable plan to take to the national to convince Australian to enshrine the voice with constitutional recognition however I strongly believe getting at least 4 states and a majority of the people to accept this will not happen. A voice to parliament, on the other hand, would be a way to get indigenous recognition more readily accepted by all Australians. Proceeding with constitutional recognition will be unbelievably divisive, will not be carried, and delay indigenous advancement whereas a voice to parliament, when explained to the public, will get wide acceptance and advance indigenous causes.
