Parliament of Australia Geoff George
26 January, 2021
Submission in response to Interim Voice Co-Design Report
I urge our parliament to accept and execute the proposals put forward in the Uluru Statement from
the Heart. For too long we have ignored the voices of the indigenous people of our ancient land.
1. I urge the parliament to honour its election commitment to a referendum once the model
for the Voice has been determined.
2. I urge the parliament to pass enabling legislation for the Voice in the next term of parliament
following the referendum
3. I believe that it is critical that the membership model for the National Voice ensures that
previously unheard Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a similar opportunity to
be selected as those already recognised as leaders in the indigenous community
The parliament commissioned the consultation process which produced the Uluru Statement from
the Heart, now it is time to accept the consensus position of the indigenous people of Australia for
the good of all Australians.
I look forward to the new and enlightened era which the Voice enshrined in our Constitution
promises to deliver our nation.
Thank you for considering my voice.
