I am a an Australian
I am a white privileged Australian
I have enjoyed the enormous privileges our society gives to white Australian males.
Have benefited from this privilege almost every day of my life without doing anything to deserve it except being born a male into a white Australian family.
Unless people like myself accept the enormity of the luck they have had to be born into a family and society like I have we will never move forward.
Far to many people have enjoyed their good luck and privileged position without understanding how amazingly lucky they are.
The quote by Ruth Bader Ginsburg covers it well "'When You're Accustomed to Privilege, Equality Feels Like Oppression" far too many Australians suffer this condition, they see equality as giving away their special rights, it's not, it's bringing others up to become equal.
Sadly there is also a nasty but pervasive religious cult of what is termed Prosperity Gospel followed by many senior politicians and government officials, including our Prime Minister Mr Scott Morrison and a majority of his cabinet. This teaches them that god blesses healthy wealthy and powerful people with gifts of money, health and power.
They then go on to believe that if you are poor sick disabled and powerless it's your own fault because obviously you do not love god and god has not blessed you.
This is a sick and perverse corruption of the Christian faith but tragically it's become endemic in our leaderships thinking.
Our government and our country must move on, our media and leaders must move on.
Spreading hate fear lies and ignorance can no longer be tolerated or allowed to go unpunished, media outlets that promote hate and racism need to be actively identified and punished for their comments with significant fines or jail terms for the many repeat offenders.
The three points must be honoured and fulfilled by our government before the next election:
1. The government must honour its election commitment to a referendum once the model for
the Voice has been settled;
2. Enabling legislation for the Voice must be passed after a referendum has been held in the
next term of Parliament; and
3. The membership model for the National Voice must ensure previously unheard Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people have the same chance of being selected as established
The time for words and promises has past
The time for delay and excuses has past
The time for our government to stand to protect our fellow Australians is now.
I'm a disabled ex service veteran, I served to protect the rights freedoms and dignity of ALL Australians.
I am disabled because of that service but I am proud to have made that sacrifice.
It's time for other Australians to stand as one and to support protect and encourage all Australians to be equal and to feel equal.
This always was and always will be Aboriginal land, we need to respect that and create a better future based on that past history.
