To the Co-Design Body,

Re: First Nations Voice to Parliament protected by the Constitution

Bird in Hand winery was founded by Andrew and Susie Nugent in 1997 and is located in
Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. We acknowledge the people of Peramangk Land on which
we stand and recognise their connection to culture, community, and Country.

In 2014 we established the Bird in Hand Foundation with the aim of giving back to the
community. Since then, we have been proud to support several great initiatives with a focus
on helping young creatives realise their dreams through the arts and education and actively
advocating Indigenous and gender equality.

Bird in Hand winery supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and its three key
components – voice, treaty and truth. As a nation it is important that we come together to
acknowledge First Nations people and ensure that, moving forward, they have a voice
protected by the Constitution.

A Voice to Parliament will enable Indigenous people to have accurate and appropriate
representation, which we hope will lead to meaningful change to the way we as a nation
treat, engage with, and celebrate Indigenous Australians. Enshrining a Voice to Parliament
in the Constitution will provide greater protection of representation in Parliament and
shows a genuine commitment to reconciliation.

Regards,

Andrew Nugent
