I write in support of the establishment of a First Nations Voice to be enshrined in the Constitution. This Voice is a fair, practical, safe and unifying reform. This is long overdue. The First Nations have been patiently waiting. IT IS TIME!
I call in the Government to honour its election commitment to a referendum once a model for the Voice is settled. The Government needs to enable legislation for the Voice to be passed after a referendum has been held in the next term of Parliament. The Government needs to call for a membership model for the National Voice that ensures previously un heard Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have the same chance of being selected as established leadership figures. This country lags behind other nations who have a treaty and have had a truth telling. Australia loses it's position on the world stage with this not addressed.
